Spring Closet Cleansing (Organizing)
It is that time of year that you feel the need to clean and organize? I seem to get a lot of that done outside, the garage, the storage units, the living room, bedroom, and kitchen but when it comes to our closet…no! I am in that room several times a day. I keep things in it I use daily. I take things out and put things back in it. It seems I have a personal relationship with our closet.
I am a fairly organized person and I like pretty things…furniture and other items. I have a good eye for design. I have a nicely designed closet with designated shelving and hanging spaces. I look at all of the pictures of organized closets and one thing I have noticed is they are mostly his and her closets, not ours. Ours is ours. Now don’t get me wrong, we do have a walking closet with lots of room. We have a designated area for his clothes, about 1/5 of the closet and I get the rest. Should be enough room, right?
My problem is I don’t want to get rid of the old things. I might need that someday. I am going to lose weight so I can fit into it again. That will come back into style one day. I spent a lot of money on that and really didn’t wear it very much. I LOVE that outfit! Excuses!!!
Now is the time. Go through and get rid of the clothes you do not wear or have not worn in the last year. Okay, 2 years.
It really does help if you have shelving and hanging space. Check out the different configuration of closet organization sites.
Just google closet organization ideas and get ready to have your mind blown with all of the different ideas. You can find one that will fit your budget. Get a plan that fits your needs. You can start small and add on but be careful you can go from $50.00 to several thousands of dollars. Get creative or find a friend that can get creative. It can be a lot of fun.
You can make it a shopping trip. Take a section of your closet at a time, if you decide you definitely want to keep it, hang it back in the closet. If you want to think about keeping that outfit put it in a box. If you don’t want it put it in a pile to go to one of your several friends or to Goodwill. This could be a time for a party. Invite your girlfriends over for snacks and try on time. Two or three sets of eyes and many different style ideas are better than one. The prize could be new outfits put together that you would never have thought about or giving your friends new cloths that they will love to take off of your hands and out of your closet.
When you start putting your clothing back in the closet I keep like colors together so when I am looking for a black pair of slacks I can find them easily. The white blouse is with the other white blouses so I can easily pick the style I am looking for. It saves time and helps make my decision easier. I like to pick out my outfit for the next day the night before. That little hook on the back of the closet door helps me out that way. I don’t have to wake up and think about what I am going to wear for that big appointment. All I have to do is take a long leisurely bath to help wake me up, set my attitude straight along with my makeup and get ready for the day! I have friends that will select their outfits for the week and not have to think about it daily. What a luxury!
You will be so glad you have finished your closet and you can see where everything is and what you have. Plus you have the satisfaction of helping other people by sharing the cloths that you no longer need. That is a win/win situation!
Pat yourself on your back for a job well done! That is all for the closet until next year or I go shopping to fill the empty shelves. Now it is time for a hunt for a good recipe for dinner. I‘m thinking…a nice light cilantro lime sauce with a dash of our Peach Pear Apple Ginger Hot Sauce over a salad with pasta, fish, or chicken would be good. I will let you know next week what we served as we continue on our journey of…Good living and…
