Rest, Read & Reflect
Sometimes I need to stop. Not for a long time but I do need to stop, read something new and look around me to see what I miss when I am so busy. Yesterday morning I did that. Yes, I had other things on my “To do list.” but that was taken care of at a later time.
There is so much going on around us that we take little note of as we rush around doing what we do. Stop. Take time to look at what is around you. Be there, if only for a few minutes.
Read something that is of interest to you. Learn something new. What was that new thing you heard about or what have you always thought you would like to learn how to do. Read about it and you might just learn how to do it. Read a fun book or one you have been meaning to get to. Don’t like to read? Listen to how to tapes. There is so much information out there for us to learn new things. It really feels good to learn and understand new ideas that get your mind thinking of new feats.
Reflect. This is probably my most important part of the day. Reflect on the positive. Find that silver lining, the rainbows or the sunshine. My day always go so much better when I look on the bright side. There are so many good things to find in our daily lives. Things we are thankful for and people we are thankful for being a part of out lives. It puts a smile on my face and my job becomes easier.
During my little vacation yesterday morning I took the time as I sat on my sofa with Bacchus (our dog) listening to soft jazz, a book hand, as I watched what was going outside the living room door. I keep trays with pebbles and water in my herb garden for our visitors during the day . I have my little piece of heaven outside my bedroom & living-room doors. A couple of years ago I ripped us a grassy spot right by our concrete patio and made a herb garden. I have added a few thing along the way, like decorative planters, a small water feature, several trays with pebbles and water as bird baths and flowers. It is on the east side of our house so it is the first to get shade in the afternoon but in the morning it has a welcoming glow that invites you to come and sit. I am not the only one to enjoy the benefits of this retreat. As I sat with my book I watched as the herb garden was visited by Scrub Jays, Mockingbirds, Morning Doves, Ringneck Doves, Redpoll birds, lizards, butterflies, bees, squirrels and a new little bunny rabbit. I watch the wind blow the leaves on the plants. I laughed as the birds took their bath in our little water fountain and bird baths. What a wonderful way to start the day.
You can find your little piece of heaven when you look for it. Some time it is right where you are, we just need to stop and take advantage of it.
You know I am all about good things in life; good things, good food that is good for you and …
